UX

While creating the screens for a requestor to access help, general info seemed to be the best way to get started so I chose to go with name, location and existing health conditions. Simple and straight-forward seemed to reveal the most efficient process.

Next up I chose to ask about the nature of the illness so the operator could assess the situation properly. Again, keeping in simple for people  who are not feeling well seemed to contrite to be a good approach.

TACTICAL HEALTH CARE

This was a Bootcamp project for school. I was part of a team of 4 UX/UI designers. Our client was Tactical Healthcare, an online alternative to 911.  We had four weeks to complete the project.  Our team was tasked with creating various user flows for a user requesting assistance. Tasks were divided equally among the team. I took the lead for UI.

Empathize and Define

Blue was chosen for the app due to its calming effect, as well as being an established color for stability. Aqua matched the logo and was introduced for use on the waiting screen.  This screen is followed by information about the person coming to help.  I determined being able to track and message the person coming to help would create a sense of comfort by way of being able to connect and track immediatley through the app.

I chose blues for their stability and comfort. Many healthcare apps are done in blue’s for the purpose of soothing.  I also chose softly rounded CTA buttons with a straight-lined font for contrast. I wanted to keep a comfortable feel and balance the visual. These choices also helped establish the visual hierarchy.   We did go through one iteration with color before presenting the project. The original and the change appear in our final project to help illustrate our process while presenting.  It’s all ADA compliant.

What I learned

This was the first collaborative project I was a part of in school. While I took the lead on the majority of the colors and basic UI, we had a teammate who was experienced in UXD and I was able to learn a lot from them about project management, project organization, including timelines. Working with a team on-line was an invalualble experience.  I have a lot of experience working in tandem with clients, but this was wonderful to work with my talented classmates as each person had so much to offer.  I think if I were revisit this project, I would add a few more subtle colors to the scheme to further enhance the soothing feeling, possibly choosing warming blues.
